The government has announced its intention to develop a 10-year plan for health and care, with three ‘big shifts’ expected to be at the forefront. But what does this mean for falls prevention and Steady On Your Feet?
Speaking at The King’s Fund, Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer reiterated the strategic changes his government wants to see, providing an opportunity for NHS trusts and local authority commissioners to redefine how services are delivered, with a strong emphasis on community services, prevention and digital innovation.
The plan is set to bring forward a significant transition from hospital-based care to enhanced primary and community services. Interventions — like Steady On Your Feet — which are designed to provide support at a community level are well aligned with this change. In the case of falls, by strengthening community resources, we can better support ageing adults in their own environments, reducing hospital admissions and improving overall health outcomes.
Preventive care has also been earmarked to take centre stage. And while resources of all formats and stages will be key, digital and early intervention tools are expected to lead the shift. Through early risk identification, our interactive platform takes a proactive approach that closely follows this outlook. Backed by integrated advanced analytics and personalised action plans, Steady On Your Feet helps prevent falls before they happen, potentially reducing significant strain on the wider system and resources.
Digital transformation has long been an aim of the NHS, but the government is committed to accelerating this transition over the next decade. As we’ve already touched on, Steady On Your Feet is well placed in this regard, serving as a cutting-edge example of bringing enhanced patient care closer to home. Offering a suite of features, including engaging self-assessment tools and step-by-step advice, we empower older adults to stay active, healthy and independent for longer. Accessible through laptops, iPads, tablets and mobiles, digital innovations like ours are likely to be the cornerstone of a new type of healthcare.
For NHS trusts and care professionals, this new direction not only supports existing initiatives but opens new avenues for collaboration. As we look towards a future where healthcare is more community-focused, preventative and digitally enabled, platforms like Steady On Your Feet are poised to play a pivotal role. Together, we can transform falls prevention and take full advantage of the opportunities presented by the new 10-year plan.
